To participate in the program, authors should fill in the application form.

Please note that the application form must include the timeline of the fellow’s work on their text and preparing the book for publication; the synopsis of the work (up to 10,000 characters with spaces); a copy of the agreement with a publishing company or a letter of intent willing to publish the book. 

Arabic and english

Applications will be accepted in Arabic or English. 

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • Are a Palestinian writer living in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, or Iraq.
  • Have at least two previously published texts.
  • Work professionally with writing.
  • Can provide a project description, timeline, and supporting documentation.
  • Intend to complete and publish the proposed book project.
  • Are developing a book project in fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children's literature, or related literary genres.
  • Can provide a project description, timeline, and supporting documentation.
  • Intend to complete and publish the proposed book project.

Things you need in your application

  • Submit a book project within one of the eligible genres, including non-fiction, fiction, poetry, children's literature, essays, biographies, reportages, interviews, novels, or short stories. Academic papers are not eligibl
  • Submit a project description explaining the content, significance, implementation plan, and intended use of the grant.
  • Provide proof of residence and supporting identification documents.
  • Submit a timeline for completing the manuscript and preparing the book for publication.
  • Provide a publishing agreement, letter of intent, or, where this is not possible, an approved writing sample

A FELLOW'S RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. A Palestinian author with at least 2 published texts in any length may apply for the fellowship.
  2. A fellow takes the responsibility to publish the book prepared within the program, in a professional publishing company.
  3. A fellow takes the responsibility to mention this in their book: 
    "This book was published through the fellowship provided by the Norwegian Non-fiction Writers and Translators Association, The Norwegian Writers Association and Tamer Institute for Community Education"
  4. Ten copies of the published book must be sent to the library of Tamer Institute.

Exceptions

  1. Special Accommodation for Palestine: Given the difficult situation in Palestine, where access to publishing houses may be limited: Applicants who cannot obtain an editor recommendation from a publishing house may submit a writing sample instead as supporting documentation. This flexibility recognizes the challenges artists and writers face due to occupation-related constraints on institutional connections and professional networks.

What makes a strong writing sample

A good writing sample includes the following

  • Clear connection to your proposed project Representative of your writing style 1–3 pages maximum PDF format
  • Representation of your writing style
  • 1–3 pages maximum
  • Delivered in PDF format

These are the things that you should avoid

  • Generic or unrelated work 
  • Overly edited or borrowed material
  • Exceeding page limits
  • Word documents or other formats

PROJECT DESCRIPTION GUIDELINES

Every application must include a project description that should consist of:

  • Project Overview Explain the general interest, format, and content of your project. Show how your final work brings something new to the public or why it matters.
  • Your Qualifications Describe your qualifications, authorship, and literary activity. Include education, professional experience, and published books/articles relevant to this application.
  • Use of Grant Explain how you will use the grant and why it's essential to complete the work.
  • Implementation Plan Describe how you will carry out the project, why publication is likely, and how the grant will improve your work
  • Page limit Up to 4 pages Your goal is to convince reviewers why this publication is important and why you're the right person(s) to write.

Key point to cover

  • Who? Who will execute the project and who are the applicants?
  • What? What is the project content?
  • Why? Why does this project matter and deserve priority? 
  • How? How will the project be carried out? When? Start date, timeline, and completion date?
